On the coast of the Top End is Broome, with Cable Beach - wonderful sunsets over the twenty two kilometres of white sand and crystal clear waters.
Many end up basing their exploration of the Top End of Western Australia here. Broome usually has balmy nights and warm days, but summers, December through February, can be unbearably hot.
Famous for its Japanese history during First World War and its booming pearl industry Broome is such a natural beauty. If cable beach is not your fancy then a night at the famous Matso’s Broome Brewery may tingle your taste buds with their infamous chilli bear.
Road trip.....well if this is on the agenda then Cape Leveque has what i consider the most stunning beach in Australia, located 2 hours north of Broome which is only accessible by a powerful 4x4. The roads are so deep in sand that navigating wrongly will result in your whole trip being halted with a bit of DIY as you dig yourself out of the sand dunes..
Work is hard to come by but bar or restaurant work is high on the list of employers, Matsos, Divers and the 6 star Cable Beach Resort all employ backpackers. A warning for the fashion conscious, The Cable Beach Resort uniform is what can only be described as embarrassing, imagine a sunburnt Japanese with tomatoes glued to the shirt!
A must visit, Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park at 3pm feeding time and the Cable Beach Sunset Camel Rides are a hit with all tourists
