Darwin, Australia

Darwin Australia - gateway to Asia and a good place to start exploring the lush green sub-tropical Top End. The city is on the Timor Sea and the beautiful Kakadu, Litchfield and Katherine Gorge National Parks are nearby.

History tells of Cyclone Tracey which wiped out the city completely in 1974, since then the transition from torn down buildings to Australia’s most visited secluded city has been massive.

First impressions of Darwin has to be somewhat sceptical due to its tiny area. However in the life of a back packer once work has been found it turns into what can only be called home. The sheer town like city is like your home town, where the whole city becomes family like.

Work is very easy to find and bar work is high on list of very well paid jobs. Bars like Wisdom, Tap, Kitty O'sheas, Deck Bar and the famous Vic are constantly employing backpackers.

Word of warning the wet season heat is practically unbearable so get out when you can. The next stop on route would be a choice between Broome, Cairns or Alice Springs (Ayres Rock) depending on the direction you travel round.

A must visit would have to be the following, wave pool, Litchfield National Park, Kakadu National Park and Darwin Harbour

My favourite place in Australia by a long mile
