Spent two days in San Francisco and I loved it. Its the West Coast equivalent of New York. The town houses look amazing and the hills are straight off a Hollywood movie.
Be wary don't go just for the Golden Gate Bridge as its not as spectacular as you may think. Nothing in comparison to Sydney Harbour Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge or even the Humber Bridge :/. The only impressive sight is the back drop behind the bridge which looks even better at night looking back at the city.
The night life is very laid back in central San Fran but livens up towards the Castro suburb which is the gay area. The best clubs are located in this area, be wary though as the club doorman may be dressed in drag :). If you want to watch football, Maggie Mays shows all English football but be prepared if your not a Man City fan as this is Oasis/Man City tribute bar.
The Coastal Highway drive was the best part of the trip from San Fran to LA, be sure to take this route as opposed to the 101 Highway which cuts out the coastal sections. Be sure to stop off at Santa Barbra, the best beach in LA in my view.
One place to avoid, Oakland! Across the bay is Oakland which when you arrive is like you have arrived in a earthquake hit slum.
